We are very proud of our Water Out partners in British
Columbia. Water Out of Vancouver/Canstar Restorations have been great team
members since they joined our network four years ago. Canstar Restorations
has been recently named one of the top ten companies to work for in British
Columbia. I know firsthand the type of company that Jay Dargatz and his excellent
staff run because I have been to their facility a number of times. Training
and faith in the employees are two hallmarks at Canstar Restorations. When
Jay was interviewed after winning such a prestigious award he replied: "We
are confident that happy employees create cheerleader customers! Ranking among
the top 10 provides irrefutable evidence of the strength and integrity of
our Canstar culture and our commitment to continually moving toward excellence
in everything we do"
We would like to recognize some of the valuable
assets that make Canstar the great company to work for as well. Velvet Cates-Cappell
is the marketing wiz at Canstar and she is always a cheerleader for the company
and a regular contributor to the Water Our Weekly Newsletter. Artie Johnson
is one of the most experienced restoration contractors in the industry and
a highly respected trainer, educator and advocate for improving the restoration
industry. Artie has been a speaker and lecturer both in Canada and the US
at industry events for RIA and IICRC and CDRG (Canadian Disaster Restoration
Group). With professional people like Velvet and Artie it is little wonder
that Canstar Restorations has moved to the top of their peer group.

CANSTAR RESTORATIONS/WATER OUT
TEAM IN WHISTLER BC SAVES THE DAY FOR THE HOLIDAY TRAIN!
Canstar Restorations, Whistler team led by Frank
Gomboc and Terri Punt recently received an urgent call to dry the train cars
for a holiday express train. As you can imagine, time was of the essence with
the holidays fast approaching.Speaking of fast approaching...as the train
cars traveled to BC from Eastern Canada, they were pelted with driving rain
which only amplified the leading windows and roof panels. Each train car sustained
extensive water damage.
When the Canstar Restorations' Whistler team arrived on site, in addition
to a must odor, the cars were leaking from windows and the roof, pools of
water were everywhere and the carpet squished under foot!
The Canstar team was asked to hold off for a couple of days while the repairs
were done to the train cars. This left a tight time limit of three days to
carpet clean and dry the two train cars! The Water Out trailer was used to
perform the drying and it was a success!! The musty odor was corrected and
the cars dried without any problems!
...ALL ABOARD!...

Water Out of Vancouver/ Canstar Restorations dries unfurnished home in 2 1/2
days
Frank Chung, Project Manager from Water Out of Vancouver
/ Canstar Restorations in Coquitlam, BC sent in a few photos from a job they
completed recently on a new unfurnished home. The refrigerator in the house
was stolen and in the process the water line was cut flooding more than 2000
square feet of space. Frank and his team set up their Water Out trailer and
dried the whole house in 2 ½ days. The job was completed with minimal
demo and the reconstruction costs were about 1/3 of what it would cost for
a normal drying procedure.

The Water Out team in Whistler, Canada Saves the New Addition to the Local
Hospital
Chris Macievich, Project Manager at Canstar Restorations
sent us a story about a recent loss he handled with help of Frank Gomboc,
Production Supervisor and Lead Water Out Flood Technician and Terri Gomboc,
Contents and Cleaning Division Supervisor.
Canstar/ Water Out was called to inspect a 24,000 square foot commercial addition
to a hospital. Upon arrival they found elevated moisture levels on the majority
of the building materials and the presence of mold.
The crew met with a hygienist. This job had to be handled carefully because
of the mold in such close proximity to the hospital and there was also a very
tight construction timeline to follow so the new addition could open on time.
Water Out was recommended for the job so the materials could be brought down
to industry dry standards quickly and the remediation and construction could
be handled. Areas were dried, mold remediation was completed, post clearance
sampling could begin and the construction crew followed behind to complete
the project.
Great work Whistler Team!

Canstar Restoration/Water Out Vancouver used their Water Out trailer to dry
framing on a new wing of a hospital
Frank Gomboc, Production Supervisor of Canstar Restoration/Water
Out of Vancouver sent in a
work report for a job the Whistler Branch completed last month. Frank’s
report: “On February 13th
2009 Canstar Restorations was asked to assist with the dry down of all affected
framing on a new
wing of a hospital in the sea to sky area. The building was saturated due
to a lot of snow and rain
before the roof could be completed. The contractor tried to dry the building
themselves but soon
found that they were in need of some professional help.
The structure had been wet a while and needed to get dry immediately to avoid
secondary damage.
The contractor contacted an environmental group who in turn recommended Canstar
Restorations
and the Water Out®. Within hours our Water Out trailer was set up to dry
and the first of
eight phases was under control and on its way to being back to dry standard.
Canstar was asked
to get the framing down to 18 percent as per the environmental group. All
affected areas were
reading 20 to 30 percent on the framing and were split in to 8 phases ranging
from 50,000 cubic
feet and 32,000 cubic feet. Within 2-4 days all areas were down to 16-17 percent
with just one
Water Out trailer, 28-18 blowers per phase and a lot of hard work by our Whistler
division. This
opportunity has shown how affective the Water Out® system can be with
a dedicated crew and
proper containment even in a building that has an unfinished envelope. This
job has demonstrated
the Water Out’s capabilities of drying down new construction and opened
the door for future work
with this large construction company. It is a pleasure to have a machine like
this in our company
and a crew that believes in it…. great job everyone.”

Water Out Vancouver/Canstar Restoration thawed, dried and heated local residential
home
Velvet Cates-Capell, Manager and Marketing Coordinator
for Water Out Vancouver/Canstar
Restoration sent in a story and a few photos on a job they were working on
last week. Velvet reports:
“The Canstar Restorations Team worked on a home last week in the Vancouver
area that suffered a
major water loss. The sprinkler lines in the 3rd floor ceiling froze and went
down all 3 floors. When the
incident was discovered all of the drywall ceilings had collapsed onto the
furniture below and had traveled
down all of the exterior walls. At the time, outside temperatures were below
freezing and the
house was frozen inside.
The Water Out® trailer was set up to thaw and dry the structure while
at the same time providing heat
so that the contents could be listed and packed out.”

and completes job in 6 days “Velvet Cates-Capell, Marketing Coordinator
of Water Out Vancouver/Canstar Restorations reports: “It’s Wednesday,

the construction walk through….nothing short of a disaster!
The Canstar Restorations team mobilizes immediately and responds with 9 technicians
from the water damage
division along with members of the HazMat, Construction, and Contents divisions!
Jenn and Alvin are diligent
(and somewhat creative!) in their use of two Water Out trailers. The “super

builder’s near impossible timeline of less than a week…Fast forward
to the very next week….a mere 6 days
later…
It’s first thing Wednesday morning; the team hands over a totally dry

Here’s a Newscast from Water Out Vancouver/ Canstar Restoration
Approximately 7000 square feet of warehouse including
businesses on the lower level were all heavily affected when a hot water tank
on the upper level failed. The team responded at 3pm on a Wednesday and continued
extracting until 1:00AM Thursday morning utilizing 4 truck mounts. Two Water
Out trailer were used to dry this massive space. The drying equipment had
to be shut down during business hours and only ran from 4pm-8am each day.
Even with drying interruptions this massive space was dried in four days.
Congratulations on a successful job to the entire team at Canstar Restorations!

Our friends across the border, Water Out Vancouver dries townhouse units at
local University
We recently received a story from Canstar Restorations/ Water Out Vancouver
about a water loss at a University in Vancouver, BC. A hot water tank on the
third floor of the housing complex failed and leaked water into 6 unoccupied
townhouse units below. Many of the ceilings had to be removed because the
water had caused them to crumble, however, with the amount of water that had
leaked there was lots of drying to be done.
Lead Flood Technicians, Jennifer Balzer and Jason Lequereux responded to the
emergency call on July 30th,
along with Division Manager, Scott Hilborn, Field Supervisors/ Flood Technicians,
Matt Savage and Raj Deol,
Flood Technicians Marna Kopp, Chris Tilkov, Jose Ortiz, Gregg Johansen and
Carpenter Howard Munn. The
members worked well into the night setting up equipment, removing fallen debris
and checking for asbestos in the building. The team used two Water Out trailers,
one Water Out portable and 40 air movers to dry these multiple units.
Great team work!

Water Out Vancouver/ Canstar Restoration Exhibit at the Buildex Vancouver
Trade Show
One of our favorite newsletter contributors, Velvet
Cates-Capell, Marketing Coordinator for Water Out
Vancouver / Canstar Restoration, sent in a report from their exhibit at the
BUILDEX Vancouver Trade
show on February 13th and 14th at the Vancouver Convention Centre. Velvet
reports:
“We promoted Water Out along with full service restoration at our four
locations:
#100-1605 Industrial Ave, Port Coquitlam BC,
Surrey Branch Office, # 4-18770 96th Ave, Surrey BC,
NEW LOCATION - Coquitlam Processing Plant, #110-155 Glacier Street, Coquitlam
BC, and
NEW LOCATION as of March 1, 2008 - Whistler Branch,102-1410 Alpha Lake Rd,
Whistler BC.
The tycoon typhoon booth was a great success at drawing a crowd. The Canstar
private label bottled
water featuring our Registered Trade Mark line "the only water we leave
behind" was a big hit with
dehydrated delegates and exhibitors alike.
That phrase was born during a marketing meeting. I suggested we leave a comfort
item like bottled
water at the residential sites we dry when Jay Dargatz, President commented
that if we handed out
bottled water it would be "the only water we left behind"....I exclaimed
"What did you just say?!!? That's
brilliant Jay!! The rest was history!”
Great work Canstar and congratulations on your new locations!

Water Out Case Study- Water Out Vancouver/ Canstar
As promised, here is another case study submitted by
Water Out Vancouver.
The loss occurred on November 30, 2006 in the Whistler Corridor. A sprinkler
main burst in the attic of a ski lodge affecting 45 suites, 3 common hallways,
a stairwell, meeting rooms and an office.
A local contractor was called to the site. His original plan was to remove
all the drop ceilings in the corridors, subsequently removing the electrical,
plumbing and sprinkler lines. His estimate was 2 weeks of drying, demolition
and substantial reconstruction.
Water Out Vancouver showed up on the site and dried the building in 8 days,
with the ceilings in place and minimal demolition. Reconstruction of one wall
and minimal drywall repairs started immediately and totaled 3 weeks, including
the drying time. The quick response and fast drying kept the reconstruction
and business loss to a minimum, resulting in savings over $100,000. To the
delight of the owners and guests, the lodge was fully operational in time
for the Christmas Season.
Every year at the Water Out Convention we award a Water Out member with the
“Fly the Flag” award. This award is reserved for companies who
excel in marketing the Water Out brand and continuously demonstrate the benefits
of drying with Water Out. It is clear to see why Water Out Vancouver was the
2006 winner of the award. We would like to thank Jay Dargatz, Art Johnson,
Velvet Cates-Capell and the entire staff at Water Out Vancouver for their
continued hard work and marketing efforts. Water Out Vancouver not only delivers
great results with each water loss, they document their success and can show
their customers the savings in time and dollars. We are looking forward to
many more case studies and great drying jobs from Water
Out Vancouver and the rest of the Water Out contractors around the world.

Water Out of Vancouver, BC – Case Study on Local School
Water Out of Vancouver/Canstar Restorations, BC, did
case study on local college that had a
water emergency that covered over 9000 sq ft caused by a 6” hot water
line burst. To make this job
more complicated most of the affected areas were covered with wallpaper or
built-in lockers. The
typical construction at this facility is double 5/8” sheetrock. This
facility is used year round and,
given the conditions and scope of the water loss this appeared a monumental
task. The crews from
Canstar got to work on a Thursday and, with their Water Out trailers and dedicated
staff, they were
packing up on Sunday.
The total property loss consisted of some vinyl base molding. All walls, wallpaper,
and structure
were dry without removing lockers or other built-ins. Classes resumed the
following day. Canstar
estimates that their quick response and the use of Water Out equipment saved
more than
$35,000.00 in direct costs plus a long interruption in use of the building.
Great job as always!

Marketing 101 with Water Out Vancouver
Velvet Cates-Capell, Marketing Coordinator for Water
Out Vancouver, British Columbia / Canstar Restorations, frequent newsletter
contributor, and recipient of the 2006 Water Out Special Recognition Award
in Marketing, takes us back to school early for some lessons in marketing
as she highlights a few of the recent events that Water Out Vancouver has
participated in to promote the Water Out® brand.
Making the rounds at the local tradeshows, Velvet sent us pictures from the
Credit Union Insurance Services show in Richmond, British Columbia and the
Insurance Brokers Association of BC in Victoria this past May. Marion Parke,
Business Development Manager for Canstar Restorations, joined Velvet in hosting
the booth.
June saw Velvet and Marion joined by industry favorite and Operations Manager
of Canstar’s Water Damage Division, Art Johnson, at the School Plant
Officials’ Association in Penticon. Velvet also exhibited at the Port
Coquitlam Fire Department’s annual Emergency Preparedness Fair recently,
speaking to members of the community about the Water Out equipment and its
applications following Hurricane Katrina.
One of the great marketing pieces that Water Out Vancouver / Canstar Restorations
use at the shows are case studies of their Water Out projects, highlighting
the rapid response and drying time, minimal demolition, and impressive cost
savings.
One such piece features a loss at a commercial facility in November of 2005.
A hot water tank above a suspended ceiling burst on a long weekend, leaving
approximately 5,000 sq ft of office and 10,000 sq ft of warehouse affected.
Water Out Vancouver was able to keep the office fully functional while the
drying was performed, minimizing business interruption, limit demolition to
the cabinets and linoleum in areas directly below the source, and complete
the drying in 4 days. The custom laminate baseboards and casings, all discontinued
materials, were dried in place, saving thousands of dollars in replacement
costs. The emergency and reconstruction costs combine were less than $30,000.
Great work, Velvet, and the entire staff at Water Out Vancouver / Canstar
Restorations; your efforts have really set the bar high.

Water Out Vancouver dries secondary school in Campbell River, BC
Velvet Cates-Capell, Marketing Coordinator for Water
Out Vancouver, BC / Canstar Restorations and recipient of the 2006 Water Out
Special Recognition Awards in Marketing, sent in a case study recently from
a project they worked on with a local contractor in Campbell River, British
Columbia. Back in June a 6” hot water main burst in the hallway outside
of the cafeteria at a Campbell River secondary school, affecting over 9,000
sq ft. The majority of the affected walls were covered in wallpaper, lockers,
or cabinets and several walls were double layers of 5/8” drywall. Demolition
consisted of merely removing cove base and drilling access holes below the
baseboard level or drilling holes in the kicks; no drywall or wallpaper was
removed.
Water Out Vancouver arrived on Thursday and removed the equipment on Sunday
just in time for classes to start on Monday morning. With business interruption
at a minimum and an emergency services bill of less than $30,000 (minimal
reconstruction was handled by the school-board maintenance staff), the school-board
was thrilled with the results. Water Out Vancouver / Canstar Restorations
report that “conventional drying methods would have taken approximately
10-14 days with 20-25 dehumidifiers, requiring the removal of a large quantity
of wallpaper, drywall and cabinetry resulting in reconstruction costs that
would have exceeded $70,000.”
Fantastic job, everyone at Water Out Vancouver / Canstar Restorations; keep
up the great work!

Water Out Vancouver finishes out the year with two great projects
Newsletter regulars Art Johnson and Jay Dargatz of Water
Out Vancouver / Canstar Restorations sent in two stories last week from recent
projects. In the first Art explains, “A two-year-old lodge in Pemberton,
a scenic town just north of Whistler, had a 2” pressurized sprinkler
main blow in the attic above 3 stories and a parking garage. Between 45 and
50 suites and offices were affected. The outside temperature was below -13°
Celsius. Frank Gomboc, our lead Water Out® technician, handled all three
floors with two Water Out® trailers and effectively dried them in 3 to
5 days. The setup was simple with the electrical demands of the trailers being
so reasonable, thus reducing the need for additional power or generators.
It took very little time on the job with the Water Outs to demonstrate to
the lodge managers that we had the situation well under control and thus eliminating
the need for the other drying contractors. Lodge managers appreciated that
business down-time for the lodge was reduced significantly, especially during
one of their busiest times of the year.”
On the second project, “At a high school in our town, a supply-line
problem caused water to seep into 2 classrooms and common corridor and then
into a number of entrances across the hallway. After extraction, the removal
of covebase, and the furniture was put on blocks, the Water Out® trailer
was fired up. The set-up was finished by Thursday night and with diligent
monitoring we pulled out of a dry building on Sunday morning. We are proud
to say that the school only lost one day of classes and if they chose to,
they could have used the rooms on Monday. When the Water Out® trailer
is used it makes a clear impression that we are serious about drying. Industries
and public buildings such as this one need to be confident in your services
and the Water Out® trailer certainly promotes that confidence.”
Great way to finish the year, Art, Jay, and everyone at Water Out Vancouver.
We are looking forward to another great year with you in 2007.

Water Out Vancouver tackles large sewage loss
Art Johnson of Water Out Vancouver, Canada / Canstar
Restorations sent in a story late last month after completing a large sewage
loss. Coincidentally the loss came just after Art attended the Sewage Class
at Bolden’s Hydro Lab and the Water Out® Advanced Technician Course.
Art explains, “This job was the result of an in-ground sewer sump-pump
out-line break that resulted in over 3,000 gallons of raw sewage being pumped
into the crawlspace underneath these offices. After a truck-mounted trash
pump looked after the first 3,000 gallons we then went to work washing, scrubbing,
rinsing and cleaning the concrete floor until we had ATP readings of under
19. We attempted to dry the space with air movers and negative air machines,
but once we got approval from the adjuster to incorporate Water Out®,
the next 24
hours saw it dry to under 4 points with the Tramex concrete meter. I want
to thank Bolden’s Hydro-Lab for the excellent training provided in the
effective remediation and drying of sewer backups. Good timing. And of course,
great Water Out® course everyone. I am proud to be associated with you
all.”
Thanks Art, and great job to you and your staff at Water Out Vancouver / Canstar
Restorations.

Water Out Vancouver Dries at Whistler, BC Ski Resort
Late last month, Art Johnson of Water Out Vancouver / Canstar Restorations
sent in great photos from a job they completed in Whistler, British Columbia.
“The project was at a well known ski resort and future site of the 2010
Winter Olympics. The water ran from a broken toilet and went down 2 floors
undetected for a day or so. The Water Out® trailer was set up on the Saturday
night and pulled out Thursday morning.
We were able to dry it rapidly other than a couple of areas that had an OSB
shear wall thus extending it to Thursday. It helped us appreciate the importance
of Charlie’s words that, “the water will come out if it can,”
so we incorporated Injectidry® to access wall cavity moisture. A perfect
scenario for Water Out®.”
Great job, Art, and everyone at Water Out Vancouver.

Water Out Vancouver exhibits at
SPOA tradeshow in British Columbia
Velvet Cates-Capell, Marketing Coordinator for Water Out Vancouver / Canstar
Restorations, sent in a report last week from the School Plant Officials Association
(SPOA) Tradeshow in British Columbia. “This is our first year as members
of the association; we had over 300 people through in one and a half days
of the tradeshow on June 7th and 8th in Penticon.
This year SPOA invited the Recreation Facilities Association of BC (RFABC)
to join them in the tradeshow,
which gave exhibitors exposure to staff directly involved in purchasing decisions,
including members of the BC School Safety Association (BCSSA) and the Council
of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI). This group (SPOA)
has been together since 1964 and many of the exhibitors are in their 15th
year at the conference. They are a gracious, supportive, proactive group and
I would love for them to be recognized. They are expert networkers and very
focused on education and industry innovations, so I found the Water Out®
technology to be very well received.
The beach party theme for the Exhibitors Hosted Evening on the 7th was a blast;
business was done in a fun atmosphere and good relationships were formed over
smiles and handshakes (not to mention shots from water guns and super soakers!).”
Great work, Velvet, the event looks like it was a great success.

Water Out Vancouver’s work at area hotel leads
to interesting Water Out® application
Art Johnson of Water Out Vancouver / Canstar Restorations in Port Coquitlam,
British Columbia emailed this week with a large loss that was called in while
Art was here in the US at the ASCR Convention. “It was 40 suites in
an inn. The source of the loss was when someone or something knocked off a
sprinkler head
that was very close to the main line. It dumped hundreds of gallons within
minutes. We dried down the upper floor of 20 suites in four days. All areas
received minor vinyl wallpaper repairs and some underpad, but were up and
running for the hotel in record time.
When we were set up at the hotel someone staying there saw the trailer and
hired both of our trailers for the next four days to heat up a couple of airplane
hangers.” A major auto manufacturer was displaying a newly released
model to all the car dealers in town, rented out the hangers for the event,
and wanted the equipment to provide temporary heat to keep the attendees warm.
Great story Art, and thank you for the pictures. Keep up the great work.

"The jobs we did involved two newly constructed residential properties
of about 4000 square feet. We were able to reduce the moisture content in
the structural lumber to below 19%, which is the acceptable level in new homes
up here. When we began the job they were at their max, some showing 75% with
our Protimeter. What we did in three days would have taken three weeks with
conventional methods. We looked like heroes.
We just finished a 7200 square foot house up country. Water ran for over 24
hours and inundated the lower level. It was below freezing most of the time,
but we still walked away at the 4 day mark with almost everything dry. "
